The Remedy is Eco-Therapy, Of Course

San Juan island Beaches are Therapeutic

I suspect that no one would be offended if I were to say that I believe our culture suffers terribly from not spending enough time outside, in nature.  The good folks at Project Nature Connect would agree.

Their website synopsis states;

HELP YOUR NATURAL LIFE-SPIRIT AND WISDOM REVERSE THE DESTRUCTIVE PARTS OF OUR SOCIALIZATION IN INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY

Empower yourself to establish balance, improve health and increase happiness. Powerfully help nature help you remedy our wide range of personal, social and environmental disorders.

I know that I’ve noticed my mood and general outlook on life is very much affected by my surroundings.  When we first moved to Yakima, WA I felt my heart sink to the floor as we pulled over the ridge into town.  In my mind, it was the valley of death, surrounded by parched, thirsty hills.

Conversely, whenever we drive into Seattle, I am upbeat, alive, jumpy, excited and happy.  It might be the art, the colors, the buildings or just simply happy memories of years spend out on lake Washington, 4 children and 10 years ago.

Nothing could have prepared me for the feeling I got upon landing the ferry in Friday harbor for the first time.  I suppose the best word would be peace.  And as we drove out of the harbor, aimlessly headed for the other side of the island, it just felt like home.

I hope that everyone can enjoy life in their perfect environment.
