What’s this all about?
I’m not sure if I’ve done one of these posts yet.
This website is like my written report and research, documenting life in the San Juan Islands with children.
We visited San Juan Island in June of 2009 as part of a group field trip for homeschoolers and were permanently damaged. Life anywhere else had lost its color. Actually we’d been disenchanted with Yakima for several years and plans to move to Puyallup (green, close to city, rural spaces, green) were thwarted, dramatically, several times.
Pulling into Friday Harbor on the ferry felt like coming home. With every hour that we spent there, we considered never leaving. I love the green. I love the vibe. I love the artsy, self-sustainable, environmentally friendly, small-town, lavender scented utopia.
We were smitten. All we could talk about for days was exploring the other islands. In fact, I am pretty sure I bought this domain the same day we spend in Friday harbor. First ferry to the island and last ferry to leave. We considered spending the night in fact.
We work from home, for ourselves. We’re not tied to any job. If anyone can live there before retirement, it’s us.
We’re mobile.
We love the outdoors.
We love to garden.
We love to build stuff.
Our kids need freedom in nature.
We need faster access to city amenities.
Our hearts are already in San Juan, and have been since before we even realized.
