Visiting Lime Kiln Point State Park

This one was particularly interesting to me, as I’d always been

fascinated with the act of making concrete.

I imagined that someone had built a fireplace of limestone and was upset when it turned to dust.  In my mind, the rain fell upon that unfortunate firepit and combined the limestone with ash and sand to create the world’s first puddle of cement.  Somewhere in ancient something, I presume.

I was as pleased as any geek-mom could be when I saw that they had an entire park named after  a Lime Kiln.  It was all so beautiful, I really forgot to visit the kiln area.  We spent time, instead, at the lighthouse, where the gentleman in charge gave us a band-aid for a skinned knee.  Sucha  friendly man, such a friendly place.  We also visited the souvenir shop, where it was actually possible for my girls to get fun souvenirs for under $5 each.  We also walked out to Whale Watch point and spend a little time climbing around on the rocks, watching dolphins play off the coast.
